yesterday - I had to take Pop to the doctor - so Nana came over and sat with jake........during that time, he started having "puss" come out of his ears....nasty isn't it......I thought - hummmm, wonder if that is just part of it. I called a couple of people who have children and they all said - it's possible that he is draining and it's coming out his ears.....so, I didn't worry about it.
Last night - fever - 103.............this morning - fever 101.........so, I called the doctor to find out when, if you are on an antibiotic, the fever breaks....she said 48 hours (which will be tonight). She then started asking me questions and when I told her about the puss coming out - she said - well, it sounds like his eardrum has busted.....great! I told her that occasionally, he would stop what he was doing, place his hands over his ears and scream (scaring me to death!)....she said - yep - sounds like it burst.....so, she called Walgreen's and ordered another antibiotic for his ears - drops........4 drops - 2 times a day for 7 days...........if, however, his fever doesn't go away - then we have to go back to the doctor to make sure something else isn't going on.....
I'm exhausted and I haven't done anything!!! Why is it so exhausting to take care of little sick ones? maybe because they want your attention 24/7 and all they do is sit in your lap......we are going on day 7 here and it's tiring.......not sleeping through the night is catching up with me....and I know if I'm exhausted - he is twice exhausted because he is not only not sleeping well - but his little body is fighting off a terrible infection!
I just hope that this eardrum thing doesn't effect his hearing??? I don't know anything about them - but I'm hoping not.......
Thank goodness he is just in kindergarten - no homework to catch up on.....LOL
Hope all is well - be blessed!

round 2..........
ok - Jake did not recover from his sickness over the weekend.....I thought he had - Friday was good - he went to school and everything - but Saturday morning - he woke up at 4:00 AM BURNING up with fever..........it has lasted ever since
So, today, we took a field trip to the doctor's office and guess what - we have our very own DOUBLE EAR INFECTION!!!!! It's our first.......in 6 years - so I can't complain too much as I know that some people have many more......and, the weird thing is - I have always heard that with ear infections - they are always complaining about their ears - well, not Mr. Jake...he has not once complained that they hurt - he had just said that they need to pop and that he can't hear....which I assumed was because his head was full of snot...
So, we have an antibiotic that we are starting tonight - it should clean him out - literally.....from everything....if you know what I mean...LOL......he has to stay on it for 5 days and stay home from school until Thursday......poor mama...LOL
2 good things happened this weekend though - we finally bought patio furniture for our new patio.....we bought a table that seats 6 for dinner and another small table with two additional chairs for more seating......it's great - needs some plants and "stuff" to make it more cozy - I'll be working on that this weekend. Can't wait to have my first dinner out there. If my husband would quit working late - we could have dinner this week out there - it's beautiful
The other good thing that happen was Jake lost two more teeth!!! I know - it seems like alot - and paranoid annie that I am - I have already called the dentist because I'm like - OMG - all his teeth are going to come out and he will have NONE in his head.....(I know you guys can totally hear me talking like that too can't you!) He has lost 1 front tooth and one up top on the side.....two on the bottom now........he looks so cute!!!!! the teeth that are coming out are so tiny - you have never seen such little teeth......the reason they are coming out is because they don't really have much of a root system......and, they are so close that when one comes out - the one directly beside it comes out too........normal for preemie's....BUT, we still have an appointment on Thursday so the dentist can look at them (and momma can be assured that none of the other ones are loose and coming out like tomorrow!). LOL..you can tell by the picture that he doesn't feel good - but he poses for Mommy to take the picture
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Church at NCC was awesome as usual......Jake was so disappointed that he couldn't go......he missed last Wednesday night too and may have to miss this Wednesday night - but next Sunday - he'll be bustin' at the seams to get back......
love to all

stuck at home.........
ok - so for the last two days I have been stuck at home with a sick baby........ok - not necessarily a baby - but it seems like that when they are sick......poor Jake - he must have caught something from school......
he woke up Tuesday morning - I could tell his allergies were bothering him - so I gave him some Motrin, along with his Zyrtec and sent him to school......of course, when he feels "punk" - he tends to act like one and he got in trouble at school for hitting......again, and again - until she finally put him in time out during recess.........
we went to Nana's house after school so I could run to the grocery store - he seem fine. Got him home - gave him some more meds and I went to a viewing .....sidebar - please pray for my friend Doris Snead and her family....her adopted son, Wade, who was only 21, died this past week.....very young and such a tragic loss.....please keep them in your prayers.......ok - back to Jake - while I was gone to the viewing - Carla took him to dinner with some friends of hers.....when i got home - she told me that she didn't think he was feeling all that great because he had been very loving and just hanging on her during the course of the evening (just like his momma - only wants attention when he doesn't feel good LOL).......she hung around for a few minutes - but by the time she left and I put his pj's on - he was BURNING up with fever.....so, back to the medicine cabinet......of course, he doesn't necessarily want to take his meds - but the problem is that Jake has febrile seizures - which basically means - he has a tendency to get fever at a rapid pace - if not caught in time - he will seize.....it has happened to me too many times in the past - I'm like a freak a zoid (ok - not a word - I know) when he has fever - I'm constantly touching him and monitoring his fever because I do NOT like the seizures.......so, I got the meds down him and he feel asleep in my lap............
the next day - Wednesday - i kept him home from school because when he is sick like this - I don't trust the teachers to watch him every 4 hours like you have to to make sure he is not feverish....which of course, all day Wednesday - I had to alternate his meds every 4 hours because I could not break his fever (I know that some of you may not agree with that - but if you've never dealt with a seizure before - then you can't knock it........)......I thought by Wednesday night he was good - I kept him home from church and made sure he was feeling good - he ate dinner and everything - however, this morning - at 5:00 AM - he came into our room and was burning up again.....................so, off we go..........
he has done much better today - has played like normal - I haven't had to give him the meds every four hours and I put him to bed tonight without anything......hopefully - he will wake up in the middle of the night if he has fever and I can give him something.....if no fever - then he will be able to go to school tomorrow........which is great as he is starting to get cabin fever......I was too - however, tonight was choir practice and I was able to get out for a short time.
Jake is apt to catch everything because his little immune system is not quite what it should be yet......going to school is really going to keep me on my toes.....he will probably catch everything that comes into the school. when I called his teacher - she told me that there is something going around - Jake was the 6th child to be out in her class.
On another note - he has another tooth that is loose......we are going to the dentist next week just to make sure this is normal for a preemie.......the teeth that are coming out are not necessarily the ones they are suppose to lose first - the two front.....so, I'm interested to see what is going on. they tell you when you have a micro preemie -that they have really bad teeth issues because they are on so much medication at birth to keep them alive that their teeth tend to rot - so far -we have had pretty good luck - he has had two caps put on and one filling - but his teeth are soooooo tiny - that I'm not sure it's a good thing that they are falling out already......but, it's like his dentist said - "his body thinks he is 6 years old - even though his mind and body doesn't" i.e. we get use to dealing with is developmental delays - but his body is 6 years old........
whatever it is - we will handle..........God is good.......Jake is healthy - all the other is just stuff.
hope you have a blessed week.
Love to all

song........in my head again.......
ok - so, today I've been cleaning my house and doing laundry.......Jake was out of school today because of Presidents day - so I was off work too......I really wanted to sleep in today - but isn't it funny when you want to do that - they wake up at the CRACK......and, when I need him to get up - he wants to sleep until 9:00!!!!!!
While I've been cleaning - I've also been either humming or singing this song that we sang yesterday at church......the words are powerful (by Big Daddy Weave).....
I am sure all of heaven's heard me cry
As I tell You all the reasons why
This life is just too hard
But day by day
Without fail I'm finding everything I need
And everything that You are To me
Every time I breathe You seem a little bit closer
I never want to leave I want to stay in Your warm embrace
Oh basking in the glory shining from Your face
And every time I get another glimpse of Your heart
I realize it's true
That You are so marvelous God
And I am so in love with You
Now how could I after knowing One so great
Respond to You in any way
That's less than all I have to give
But by Your grace I want to love You not with what I say
But everyday
In a way that my life is lived
This song is SO powerful when you listen to the words.......Every time I breathe - do you realize how many times we take a breath? Reality - (I sometimes have to break things down to my reality to get it) GOD is right here - every second of every day - right here beside me.......and when my day seems unbearable or something happens with Jake and I wonder - will he ever be "caught up" - I find that everything is ok because he is a marvelous God and I am so in love with him......and REALITY - he is so in love with me.
How much he loves me........he gave me a miracle baby.......a baby that would require much love, attention and patience.........he gave him to me - even though I didn't deserve a miracle baby - he chose me to care for Jake - even though I was the rebellious kid, the one who didn't want anything to do with him (god) for a long time - he still choose me to mother one of his angels.......
Every time I breathe I get a little bit closer!!!!!

Songs in my head......can't get them out
So, last night was choir practice at my church, New Covenant in Humble and it was awesome. One of the new worship songs that we learned is called "We thirst for you".....a very simple but POWERFUL song........here are the words:
We thirst for you
We search for you
In this dry and barren land
we're longing for your hand
to guide us to, a place where you
can cleanse us with your rain
baptize us once again
we thirst for you
beautiful song......we then follow it with
Pray for rain
when your heart is dry and thirsty
pray for rain
when your life is void and empty
pray for rain
when you don't know what to pray
pray for rain
I think both songs are by David and Nicole Binion - great anointed worship leaders......I know they sing them - just not sure if they wrote them.......we thirst for you is the last song on my music if you want to hear it -it's not the Binion's singing it- but it still is powerful.......
These songs keep playing over and over in my head - causing me to be in a state of worship all morning. What a great feeling.
My husband gave me valentine flowers last night - so sweet! He is so thoughtful....yes, I know they were early - but he didn't want to "fight the masses" on Saturday......that's ok with me. He went out and bought these himself- means alot to me. Jake got to "deliver" them to me - it was precious......he, (Jake of course) will be on a sugar high tomorrow as I bought him lots of chocolate - his favorite! I have to place on the top shelf because he will "help" him self to however much he wants and I"ll figure it out as he is bouncing off the walls!!!!! LOL My sister, Paulette, is the cause of this great addiction........she LOVES, LOVES, LOVES chocolate and she gave the first piece to Jake when he was 3.....now, he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES it......
tomorrow - my husband is grilling for dinner - he wants to cook for me.....love that!
hope that however you spend your day - whether your married or single - that you find someone to show your love to..........it can be a good friend, a sister, mother, brother, husband......whoever -just give your love away.
be blessed.

Back from Chicago.......
and I had a blast!!! What a great treat to get to see all my friends from my "former" life at Arthur Andersen. It was so surreal to walk the halls of the great "St. Charles" (that was the training center for Arthur Andersen).....when I checked in - I felt weird......I felt elated - I felt out of place.........I felt at peace........
I flew to Chicago with my friend Kathryn - she lives in the woodlands - but we don't see each other very often. She had rented a car - so I rode with her to the center.......we had a great time.....she got me hooked on a new Starbucks drink!!! The good thing is - it's cheaper than what I normally get! Grande Americano - that's my new drink...basically 3 shots of espresso with hot water....then I add cream and splenda - very yummy!! it's like 2dollars and some change...I'm use to getting the grande soy no foam latte - $4.00 later - I'm sipping my drink!!!
My husband was making me laugh because he told me he couldn't believe I was spending all that money to fly to Chicago and hang out with my friend who lives in the woodlands.....didn't we think that we could get together at the spa or the mall instead of Chicago!!!! We cracked up......of course, we did hang out mostly together....but, he doesn't have to know that!! LOL
Ok - back to the "reunion".......It was VERY strange to walk the halls of the great "Q" center as it is now called.......I know it's hard to grasp, but, for me - it's been kind of hard to let go. It's been hard to realize that Arthur Andersen doesn't exist anymore......it was such a part of my life for so long - ok - put another way - it WAS my life for so long. You figure that Andersen will always be around and even if you don't work there - you figure that you could always go back and see everyone and then - wham - it's gone for good - a company that has been grounded for 80 something years and in one years time - it's gone bye bye.......I'm speaking from a personal experience - I'm not even going into the legal stuff that caused the collapse - that's a whole 'nother ball game!!!! :) The hardest thing was the connection that the Andersen employees had with one another - - it can't be replaced......it can't be taken away either.....I found that out this weekend. Even though 7 years has passed us by - it was like we had seen each other yesterday....
So many of my friends were there......Suzanne Alexander, James Chvatal, Richard Pollock, Phil Davis.....just to name a few...........we had a blast!!!! I laughed, I cried, I was inspired, I danced, I sang.....it was so much fun.
It wasn't just a reunion - there was a business side of it too for those that work.... there were meetings and break out sessions on different business aspects..........none of that really applied to me as I just went back to work part-time in August - BUT, I didn't go for that part......hehehe ......I went for social hour...LOL.......they also had various motivational speakers that were great and did actually apply to me!
One of our speakers was a former Andersenite.......John Blumberg. He is the one that puts the weekend together (with a team of his). He is contagious with his personality - he makes the room light up with is smile. Some people think that we go sit around and mope because Andersen is no longer around and that is so far from the truth!!! Check out his website at http://www.keynoteconcepts.com/. He is also a great writer -his book "silent Alarm" is a great read......and he has another book coming out soon.
There were a couple other speakers there - but one lady took the cake! Her name was Jackie Pflug......she was on an airplane in 1985 flying to Cairo,Egypt from Athens, Greece and her plane was hijacked!!!!! She was shot in the head and survived.........her story was AMAZING!!!!!! It makes you realize what is really important in this world and that you can survive anything that you are faced with. Check out her website and read her story - you will be amazed for sure!!! http://www.jackiepflug.com
Jake got to spend most of the weekend with his Nana as his father had to work on Saturday - but I understand that the "boys" had a great weekend........daddy took Jake out to eat (ok - it was just whataburger - but hey - it was not at home :) and they even went to church without me!!! LOL....that is a huge thing for my husband - to get up and get Jake dressed without me.......it was good for both of them. They both met me at the door on Sunday night when I got home..I'm not sure which one was more relieved to see me....LOL........Jake kept hugging me and telling me that he loved me and he couldn't believe I was home!!! too funny.....
Overall - the weekend was a great success and I'm looking forward to the next one! Now back to normal daily routines.......getting ready for Jake's valentine party on Friday at school - I have to stuff 22 valentine bags full of candy......such fun memories.........now, if only I could keep Jake out of the candy.........
love to all

They both met me at the door on Sunday night when I got home..I'm not sure which one was more relieved to see me....LOL........Jake kept hugging me and telling me that he loved me and he couldn't believe I was home!!! too funny.....
Overall - the weekend was a great success and I'm looking forward to the next one! Now back to normal daily routines.......getting ready for Jake's valentine party on Friday at school - I have to stuff 22 valentine bags full of candy......such fun memories.........now, if only I could keep Jake out of the candy.........

We lost......................

our first tooth!!!! How exciting....Jake lost his first tooth over the weekend. It was funny because I was in my room and all of a sudden, I hear Jake running around looking for me and when he came in the room - I freaked out because all I could see was blood everywhere!!!!! I said, "Jake, Jake - what happened"......and of course, he started crying!!!! Then I realized that he was holding his tooth!!!!! Ok - so now, I've got to compose myself and start jumping up and down all excited about his first tooth coming out.....he was like - ok - what - are you upset about the blood or are you excited about this??". Too cute!
You have to realize - I've had my share of "scares" with Jake and even though he hasn't had an episode since his emergency surgery in 06 - I tend to always be so leary! I know that I've got to get past this - but I've lived in this state for so long - that it's hard to bounce into the other role......but, I'm going to get better!
I got his tooth - put it in a bag - explained all about the tooth fairy and how she would come at night and hopefully leave him some money.....shouldn't have said that - he wanted to get some more "teeth" out of his mouth!!! LOL
The next morning when he came in the room -I ask him if the tooth fairy had come during the night and he said "no mom, she didn't come"........I said - are you sure? He said, yes - I looked under my pillow - I said - well come no - lets go look some more.....sure enough - there it was. His face lit up so bright - he said "awesome mom".......
the expressions on their faces - priceless!!! I love all the "first" with him - it's hysterical to watch him try to figure out how the tooth came out, what the tooth fairy did with it and how did she get into the house.....like Santa Claus mommy???
scripture for the day: I Corinthians 13:13 (message bible) " Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love".
be blessed.
