so now, our eardrum has burst!

yesterday - I had to take Pop to the doctor - so Nana came over and sat with jake........during that time, he started having "puss" come out of his ears....nasty isn't it......I thought - hummmm, wonder if that is just part of it. I called a couple of people who have children and they all said - it's possible that he is draining and it's coming out his ears.....so, I didn't worry about it.

Last night - fever - 103.............this morning - fever 101.........so, I called the doctor to find out when, if you are on an antibiotic, the fever breaks....she said 48 hours (which will be tonight). She then started asking me questions and when I told her about the puss coming out - she said - well, it sounds like his eardrum has busted.....great! I told her that occasionally, he would stop what he was doing, place his hands over his ears and scream (scaring me to death!)....she said - yep - sounds like it burst.....so, she called Walgreen's and ordered another antibiotic for his ears - drops........4 drops - 2 times a day for 7 days...........if, however, his fever doesn't go away - then we have to go back to the doctor to make sure something else isn't going on.....

I'm exhausted and I haven't done anything!!! Why is it so exhausting to take care of little sick ones? maybe because they want your attention 24/7 and all they do is sit in your lap......we are going on day 7 here and it's tiring.......not sleeping through the night is catching up with me....and I know if I'm exhausted - he is twice exhausted because he is not only not sleeping well - but his little body is fighting off a terrible infection!

I just hope that this eardrum thing doesn't effect his hearing??? I don't know anything about them - but I'm hoping not.......

Thank goodness he is just in kindergarten - no homework to catch up on.....LOL

Hope all is well - be blessed!

Ouchy! Just ask Redonia about this one. Her's never healed once it ruptured and we eventually had surgery to correct it. Almost $40K later it is ruptured now. She has hearing loss in that ear. She had repeated ear infections from 6 wks of age to now though. She has what the ENT classifies a diseased ear. I can't even recall how many tubes have been placed in her eaers. More than a dozen I KNOW. I do believe normally the ear drum patches its self. Maybe Jakes will successfully heal on its own.
