Facebook

IT IS ADDICTING!!!! And, I love it! I have found more friends from my past life (ok wait - that sounds a little weird doesn't it - let me rephrase).....I have found more old friends that I can't even believe it.

You know how you grow up (ok - some of us never do -but WHATEVER) and move away - you start your own family, your own life and somehow - friends and co-workers kind of fade away. Not intentionally - but it's like - if they are not part of your every day life - they just tend to fade way...........I am guilty of this very thing. Once Arthur Andersen (god rest it's soul...I LOVED that place) lost it's battle in a court of law... :), and I wasn't seeing my friends everyday and eating lunch with them every day - I didn't have anything in common with them anymore and my life went on in a different area. You have to remember, I worked at AA (no, not Alcoholics Anonymous) for 18 years.......I was 16 years old when I was hired and I was 34 when they shut down - that is half my life - right there....so, I had some really dear friends - they were like my other family.......it was very sad when that ended......we all swore we would keep in touch - and with some of them - I try to see every quarter or something - but it has mostly been an email here and an email there.....very sad when we all live in the same town......however, along comes FACEBOOK and wham - there are a lot of my friends......even ones that I grew up with in Daisetta, Texas!!!!! Talk about a blast from the past!!!!

Alot of my friends on Facebook come from Life Tabernacle (where I graduated from LCA) and from Apostolic Temple where I went to church with my dad for several years (where he met his lovely wife, Shirley :)).......it's great to see and talk to them because most of them - I haven't seen since I left school..........one of my very bestest friends in the whole world (besides Vanessa and Doris) is Kay Pierce - we live in the same town - but we are both married with children and our lives have gone in different directions.......we would see each other once or twice at a wedding or a funeral and always promise to try and do better....but it is so hard sometimes....however, on Facebook - we have talked more to each other than we have in years!!!!!!! I love it!!!

Facebook is a great place to just send a quick note - let them know you are still thinking about them.....sometimes I walk down memory lane and it's great to see their faces and see those of us who are getting older (ok - I turn 40 in 6 weeks!!!!!!) and to see those of us who have children, and maybe even grandchildren.

Just remember, as with all other things - make sure your privacy is set to where only friends or friends of friends can see your profile - we don't want anyone that is crazy to steal anything like a picture of something and become you!!! I know, there are crazy people out there. All you have to do is go to your settings - then privacy settings, then profile and select your settings......

also remember, it's addicting!!!! Once you join - you will be forever checking to see who has someone you know that you want to keep in touch with!!!

Love it and love you guys....

scripture for the day......Romans 10: 11-12 (contemporary English version)
"The scriptures say that no one who has faith will be disappointed, no matter if that person is a jew or a gentile. there is only one lord, and he is generous to everyone how asks for his help".

I am finally talking again!!!!

ok - let me just tell you that I had no idea how much I talked until I couldn't do it for 3 whole days!!!!! And, I also never realized how much we use our tongue.....bear with me - I know that is a little bizarre - but, this weekend, I must have eaten something that I was highly allergic too because - man, it tore my tongue up.....now, this posting might be a little bizarre - but my life is sometimes bizarre - so hang in there.................

I have always had what they call geographic tongue - you can look it up on the Internet - it's no big deal - occasionally, if you eat something with too much acid or too many nuts or spices, it will cause your tongue to break out and look like a road map - hence the name - geographic!! However, this past weekend - I had huge blisters all along the side of my tongue and under it too - so, I either had something that I was allergic too or it had so much acid in it - that my senses went haywire!!!! My tongue was 2 sizes larger than normal and every time I tried to talk - it was extremely painful...........bright side of this mess - I love 7 pounds in 3 days because I couldn't eat or drink anything~!!!!! On Monday and Tuesday I went to work - it was hysterical - talking with a mouth full of mush - finally - I told them that I couldn't answer the phone anymore -they were going to have to do it............by Tuesday - I went to the Nurse Practitioner at our local CVS and I cracked up when she saw my tongue because she did a double take!!!! It was funny!! She did tell me that the tongue basically has to heal itself - if however, within 7 to 10 days it wasn't better - I needed to go to the doctor........uh DUH!!!

I went to a CVS that had a Pharmacist that I knew from my church and ask her what I could possible take or do and she gave me some mouth wash that was basically a higher dose of hydrogen peroxide and some Oral Gel Paste.....the paste vs. the gel was the kicker...........man - that stuff worked like a charm......so, on Wednesday - I stayed home from work and kept my mouth dosed up with oral gel and talked to no one.....my husband called me from work and all he got was uh huh about 15 times.......

Today - I woke up and wha la - I could talk....it's not totally gone - I still have a little lisp - but for the most part - I'm good..............if I could pinpoint what I ate that did that to my tongue - let me tell you - I would stay so far away - whew.........

isn't this all bizarre??? This would only happen to me....I'm just glad it wasn't something serious.........

Today I had lunch (first lunch in 4 days!!!) with my blended family. My sister, Vicki and her husband Tremayne, Micah, Chelsea, Timo, Scott, Grammy, me and Jake. My brother-in-law, Tremayne Simoneaux, was leaving at 4:30 for Africa. They are missionaries and he left prior to my sister - she has 5 more weeks. They have lived over there for quite a while - it is their life. I come to you and ask that you add them to your prayer list for a whole year - just mention their name in your daily prayers - i would appreciate it. They have some personal issues they are dealing with right now - it's not my place to lay it all out for you - but if you could lift this family up and just keep them in your prayers this year - I would appreciate it. Matthew 18: 19 NIV: "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." And, for those who don't know them and don't know how to pronounce their name - it sounds like Sim Ma Know (Vicki will laugh at this!)

Love to all - be blessed.

I survived the weekend!!!

Oh my goodness - I am tired!!!! LOL.......I did indeed survive the weekend. Thursday was the busiest day by far because i wanted to get everything done before Friday so I wouldn't rushed trying to get Paulette from the hospital........so, I was up until midnight getting everything cleaned and laid out for the shower.........

Friday was a good day - picked up Paulette from the hospital - she is fine - had minor surgery - doing well........one funny thing about this was - that I had joked in a previous email that I was going to "dump her out" and hit the ground running - well.......the surgery ran a little late and she was about an 1.5 hour behind time - so, when I took her home- her daughter had forgotten to leave the house key and since I had to get home to get jake to the rehearsal dinner - I did have to 'drop' her out - leave her in the back yard to wait for her husband so I could get home and get jake to practice!!!!! Thank goodness her husband was close and it didn't take long for him to get there......LOL......I didn't want to leave her there -but she was insisting that she was fine and it really was a very minor surgery or I would have NEVER done that...............but it's funny that she was left sitting on a stump (literally) in her back yard waiting on her husband! Her daughter thought that she had the garage door opener with her!!!

I got home in time to bathe Jake and get him out the door.........he was so excited! They got married at a place called Ashton Gardens off 1960 - beautiful place!!!! I didn't even realize it was back there. Rehearsal went great - he did a few things that had me thinking - oh no - this isn't going to be pretty tomorrow - like, he had to practice walking up and down the isle waving at "the pretend" people, once the rehearsal started - he kept turning around asking ask me "how much longer do I have to stand here", trying to give the bible away to others to hold, trying to talk to the groom, read his bible - I thought - uh oh - here it comes - anytime he has a bible in his hand - he starts preaching! I could just see him taking off!!! Once rehearsal was over - we went to the dinner and he found a little "powder" room off the restrooms that he decided was his "office"......he had all the adults line up for a "meeting" with him............he was calling all the shots and guess what - everyone was letting him! It's amazing what a 5 year old can get us older ones to do and do willingly!!! I couldn't believe it - we were all cracking up!

After rehearsal - Jake went to Nana's to spend the night so I could host my baby shower the next morning

Up at 6:00 AM on Saturday to start preparing - got everything done - and ready to go by 10:00 - just enough time to sit down for spell before my neighbors started to arrive. The shower went off without a hitch - it was beautiful and Misty got lots of good things.

Jake got home at 2:20 pm - he had just enough time to play his drums for a short time and unwind before bathe time and "tuxedo" time. He couldn't wait to put that on!!!!! He looked so handsome and didn't even complain about his "tie" having to touch his neck.....normally - he can't have a collared shirt because he can't stand for anything to touch his neck - but he didn't mind this one - because it was a "tux"......he did absolutely phenomenal at the wedding!! When it was time for him to walk in - he decided he wasn't walking with no girl and he took off down the isle like speedy Gonzales....left her in the dust......got to his spot - stood perfectly still - turned when he was suppose to.....occasionally he would look behind him trying to locate the "band" members and make sure they were ok. When the bride and groom turned to face each other to say their vows - Jake looked at me and said "hey mom - they are going to kiss'.....we all cracked up!

At the reception - no different -he hogged the dance floor playing his air guitar and drums to all the music.........too cute! Overall - big success....both the wedding, which was beautiful, and Jake in his first one. Once Sunday was over - church, lunch and visiting with the in-laws.........I was exhausted! however, over the course of this weekend - I ate something that I must have been allergic too - because my tongue is about 2 sizes larger than it should be and has blisters all over it!!!! Very painful......maybe I was too stressed out and it caught up with me - I don't know - all I know is I'm not talking very well right now -so if you need me for any reason -your best bet is to email - otherwise - you can not understand a word I'm saying!!!! Talk about talking with a mouth full of mush!!!!!

Ok - that's it.......I've been studying I Corinthians 13 this week - the whole chapter - it's about Love - if you read in the contemporary English version - it's pretty plain spoken - which is what I need!

I'm off and running.................

but, I didn't want the weekend to come without my scripture for the day!!! I have so much to do over the next couple of days - that I probably won't post until Monday -so, I hope that everyone has a blessed weekend.....good church and lots of family time.....go make some memories...........

and, I will definitely post pictures of Jake in his "tuxedo tails"..............

and, I will let you know how Paulette is recovering from her minor surgery...................

Scripture for the day: I Peter 2: 10 (Contemporary English Version)
"Once you were nobody. Now you are God's people. At one time no one had pity on you. Now god has treated you with kindness".

How I read it to apply to my life: Now I am God's - at one time, no one had pity on me - now God treats me with kindness"......

that's what I'm talking about!

be blessed

What a day

whether you voted for Obama or not, you have to admit that today was amazing! I could not believe all the people that showed up to watch the swearing in of a new president. Can you imagine how those little girls must feel knowing that they are going to live in the white house for 4 years!!! What a place to grow up in...........I can't even begin to imagine what that feels like or how they are going to have to grow up fast to be able to handle all the stress that goes along with it. I'm a republican and I'm proud of it - but I'm also proud to be an American and the responsibility that goes along with that is praying for my nation and my president - regardless of who is in office. I can either choose to talk bad about him and what he represents or I can choose to pray that god's hand would be on him and on our nation and the choices that he makes for our country -if they are not good one's - that god would be the CENTER of our focus and not on man.

Ok - I'm done with that. Now, for an update on my busy week - THANK GOD our music pastor canceled choir practice on Thursday night (don't tell Mr. Robert that I'm excited!!!) :) I have been running like crazy the last two days trying to get everything done that I could since I have no free time and then, wham, I get an email that we don't have practice!!!! I'm like - oh yeah - now I can clean my house at 8:00 PM instead of 12:00 AM LOL. Yesterday, my neighbor called to see if she could watch Jake for me while I ran errands for the shower......I could have kissed her! I was able to run to target and buy some of the gift and paper goods for the shower. Today, instead of working out (ok - don't tell anyone that I missed the gym today) I took Jake to his Nana's house and went to Walmart to buy some more stuff for the party (having to do this in increments is killing me!)....now, all that is left is tomorrow - between school and church - I'm going to make the truffles and freeze the punch. Thursday after school I'm going to run to the mall and pick up the tuxedo for the wedding and then come home, make dinner - put the little one to bed and then clean the house.............Friday, I will go to the grocery store, pick up Paulette from hospital - throw her out of the car at her house (ok - not really - I'll make sure she is comfortable before I leave) jet set home, get Jake from school and get him to the rehearsal. Friday night after the rehearsal dinner - I'll make everything that I need to do prior to Saturday and then we'll go from there!!!!!

Whew - I'm tired just thinking about everything I need to do..........................

Ate pappasito's tonight with a good friend of mine, Kathryn Hier. I worked with her at Arthur Andersen - she is a great friend and it's nice to be able to see her and catch up. Mr. Jake joined us - she hadn't seen him in 3 years......and, believe it or not, he was on his best behaviour. I only had to tell him twice that the dinner table is not the drums!!! Probably gained back the 2 pounds I had lost tonight...............hate it when that happens!

scripture for today: Psalms 139: 23-24 (contemporary english version)
"Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true."

Busy week

Hey everyone - hope your weekend was blessed! We, once again, had OUTSTANDING church. Special guest was there this weekend and once again, our church was rocked! I can't wait to see what 2009 has in store for New Covenant Church.

This week is going to pass by in a blur! Today I have off because of the holiday - so I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row (hard to do with a 5 year old wanting to play church and band all day :)) I'm hosting a baby shower at my house on Saturday, plus Jake is in his first wedding this weekend....too funny!

My neighbor, Misty, is having her first baby - due March 1st. I'm hosting a neighborhood shower (bunch) at my house on Saturday at 11:00.....I'm so excited - I love to host parties. I'm going to try and go to Target today to get her gift, then to party city to buy all the plate ware.....all this running with Jake.......hum, not sure that is wise. I'm going to serve rotisserie chicken salad with grapes and pecans in it - croissants, mock champagne punch (basically fruit juice and sprite) salad, strawberries dipped in chocolate and either a fruit tray or veggie tray - haven't decided). There is also going to be a GREAT cake that my neighbor, Robyn, is in charge of. We are playing a game that we played at my sister, Kristi's baby shower - where you cover the name of the baby food and pass the jar around - you have to smell the jar and try to determine the name of the food - who ever gets the most - wins a prize. I like this game because it's not too hooky - I'm not a big game player - so this one is perfect!

I will work Tuesday - Thursday, then after work each day - I will come home and clean my house. Friday - I will pick up my sister Paulette from her doctor's appointment (or minor surgery) and run her home - then I will go to the grocery store for the food for Saturday, then I will come home - pick up Jake from school - then he has rehearsal for the wedding at 5:00 - then the dinner - then he goes to Nana's to spend the night because daddy has to work on Saturday during the shower and there is no way, I repeat, NO WAY, that Jake can be at the shower on Saturday morning because he will be trying to have church or a band concert with all the ladies!! Can you even imagine!!!!!!

Then, once the shower is over, Jake has to be at the wedding at 4:30 for pictures.........my husband is a little nervous about Jake being in this wedding because you never know what Jake is going to do..............take for instance yesterday at church. I'm on the platform with my sister Deniese, we are getting ready to sing for the offering....Pastor Mazz is making announcements and people are getting ready to give in the offering - when all of a sudden - out of the corner of my eye - I notice that Jake has come through the choir doors and is WALKING IN FRONT OF THE PLATFORM - DURING CHURCH!!!!! this of course, is during the 11:00 service - which is our largest service and, to top it off - we have a guest speaker!!!! Ok - I'm in slow motion trying to get off platform, doing hand signals at Jake to get back - he of course, is giving me hand signals - like - I need to talk to you - my brother-in-law, Glenn is attempting to grab his arm- all the while - Jake is still walking in front of Pastor Mazz.......so, Pastor Mazz stops and says "oh - don't worry about him - that is baby Jake - he is just passing through....give me a high five Jake" -to which of course, Jake gets a big grin on his face and stops to give Pastor Mazz a high five!!!!! Then, my sister Carla - sitting on the other side on the front row - promptly grabs him!!!!! Now, I'm up to sing giving him the evil eye and trying to figure out why in the world he is in the big sanctuary!!! too funny. It always happens to me when I'm on the platform and can't get to him. My husband goes to the 9:00 - Jake never does this when he can get him - always when I'm there by myself (so, you are beginning to understand why my husband is a little nervous about Saturday~!!! LOL). When I got down from the platform - I asked Jake what in the world he was doing - and he told me that he couldn't find his bible and was coming in the sanctuary to tell me to get off the platform to help him find it!!!!!

Needless to say - I'm sitting close to the front at the wedding in case he heads for the pulpit or the drums!!!!! He is going to be the bible carrier - he informed me that I needed to tell Matt (the groom) that he (Jake) would carry the bible down front - but then he was sure that he was going to need to sit down (Jake saying this - like he is grown!!!). I'm worried........LOL

I'll be sure and take pictures of Jake at the wedding. He is wearing tails....how cute is that! He is so excited about wearing a tuxedo and "dress shoes" as he calls them. should be a hoot!!!

Scripture for today - Romans 8:16 (Contemporary English Version) "God's spirit makes us sure that we are his children.". This is how I read it: " God's spirit makes me sure that I am his child!"

Be blessed -

drum roll please............

ok - results are in and Tootsie (my mother-in-law) is FREE AND CLEAR!!!!! She got word tonight that her Pet Scan was clear!!! What a relief - now she can live her life without the worries of "cancer". We believe that she will stay clean and healthy.

Update on my workout/healthy eating: I have been very consistent. I've been very proud of myself!!! I've eaten much better this week and I've exercised consistently...........there were a couple of days that I didn't really want to go to the gym - but, I pushed myself there anyway! I haven't branched out from much more than the treadmill - but, I have put it either on an incline or decline (really cool feature the new treadmills at 24 hour fitness have) and whew - that will rock your legs if you haven't climbed anything lately!!! I also have the walk away the pounds video's by Leslie Sansome that you use in your home - those are fantastic! I did that video on the days that I couldn't go to the gym........her video's take you from either 2 miles up to 4 miles and she also has a band to use for strength training. If you are looking for an in house exercise - this is a great one! I'm two pounds lighter - granted - it's all in my face - but hey - gotta start somewhere!!!! LOL. I know that excerisce is the way to go - I just have to tell my head that! LOL

The marathon is this weekend - how I wish I was there. I know, I know - I can't ever do that again (according to my doctor - because of my health issues from being pregnant) but I can wish can't I??? My husband just shakes his head at me when I mention how I wish I was running again. I know it's hard for those of you who have never run a marathon to think about running 26.2 miles - but it is really addicting when you are doing it. I wish all of those running the very best! Run hard - stay consistent with your time and you'll do great!!! I'm with you in spirit.

Scripture for today: Galatians 5: 22 (Contemporary English version)
"God's spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and SELF-CONTROLLED"! This is how I read it "God's spirit will make me loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and self controlled!" (I need more of all of these!!)

Scripture for my memorization with Beth Moore: Galatians 6:10 (CEV)
"We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord." this is how I read it, "I should be helpful to people whenever I can - especially those who are followers of the Lord".

Glasses.......again!

How many of you have had to keep glasses on a 5 year old????? I'm beginning to think - it's impossible!!! Today was our 3rd trip to the doctor for more glasses!! We bought the ones that curve around the ear so they would stay on his face - but the way he pulls them off his face is pulling the piece "out of socket" or so they say.............................

We have only had them for 1 year. When they told us he needed glasses - we, of course, didn't have Eye insurance because neither one of us wore glasses - we didn't think of Jake!! We've been through two prescriptions ($500 each) and 3 frames..........needless to say - we got eye coverage at the beginning of this year.....now that we have it - he'll probably take care of them...LOL...isn't that the way it goes!

Now that I'm turning 40 - it seems that I'm needing reading glasses as I struggle to see the computer and my books.......I've always heard at 40 things start moving and shifting........guess I have at least 2 more months before all that happens....then, watch out!

On a totally different subject - my sister-in-law, Courtney, entered in the Houston Cup Floral Design. She had to take an entry arrangement with her in order to place for entry into the Cup. Not only did she win the Houston Cup but her entry arrangement also won people's choice. She now has to place in the preliminary State finals which will be held at the Houston Home and Garden show and if she makes the cut there she goes to State Finals in Dallas. She is awesome with her designs and has her own flower shop in Houston called High's Flowers........if you ever need flowers - she is outstanding!!!!! We are all rooting for her - I know she will rock!

Prayer request early......

while I'm thinking about it - I'd like for everyone who reads this blog to say a quick prayer for my mother-in-law, Tootsie. She goes in for her pet scan on Thursday - January 15th to determine if all the cancer cells were killed off with the chemo/radiation treatment. I'm praying that it is all gone because this took so much out of her - I'm not sure what her answer would be if they told her there was more........I'm not sure that she would be willing to go through it again..........so, if you would keep her and her husband, Alvin, in your prayers - I would greatly appreciate it.

We won't know the results on Thursday - but as soon as I do - I will pass along to you.

Isaiah 41:10 (The Message Bible)

"Don't panic - I'm with you. There's no need to fear for I'm your God. I'll give you strength. I'll help you. I'll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you."

Awesome church

I am just now getting around to posting about church yesterday! It was above and beyond amazing.

Ok - remember in one of my recent posts - I talked about my struggle with not being balanced and not knowing what I was suppose to be doing as it relates to my work at the church. I was forever feeling pulled between my two responsibilities - one, being one of the lead praise and worship leaders and two, being the Sunday School Administrator for the Children's church.....it's very "chaotic" on Sunday mornings and I was feeling like I wasn't being very productive in either role.....SO, I'd been praying about it all week and focusing on my scripture memorization - (which now, means more to me than when I started reading it because it references our "deeds" and the rewards we get for our deeds"). My focused prayer this past week has been on finding my way and my purpose........my song this week has been "give me a revelation" by Third day.......

well, fast forward to this past Sunday - and wham! Have you ever been in a service that you were just dumbfounded at the move of the spirit - a service where you couldn't wrap your mind around what was happening because it was happening so fast!!! Well - that was New Covenant Church this past Sunday. It was AMAZING!!!! We had a gentleman there who is a true man of god - he is a man who walks among the homeless and the people who live under bridges and witnesses to them. He goes places that most of us (and I'm speaking for myself) would never even imagine going. He has such humility - it's amazing.......he knows the bible and uses it as his manuel - something that I need to get back to in a more compassionate way. He stood up at the pulpit and just began weeping - he could not even speak. The Holy Spirit was so strong on him that you couldn't help but weep. He began ministering to different people - it was beautiful!

I was on the plaform singing - minding my own business - but secretly wishing that I was among the people getting prayed for by this man.....little did I know that my time was coming!!! Church was ending - I walked up to him to thank him for coming and he hugged my neck.....well - when he did - he started praying for me and he specifically mentioned 4 times the very things that I had been praying for and asking for confirmation on!!!!!!! It was life changing!!! I mean - that is when you truly know you have been heard by God almighty. I have never seen this man before, never met this man before - but he read my life history in one prayer. He thanked God that the enemy of my youth had not been able to destroy me, he told me that I was raising up a little warrior and he spoke about my work with the children's ministry - as well as my singing. I mean - I couldn't speak - it was amazing. God is so faithful.

I laugh at myself because when I pray - I always remind god that he made me - and he knows that I always need a verbal confirmation with some things because I tend to try to figure things out on my own - and I always pray that he would send someone my way with a confirmation and lo and behold - I got one on Sunday!!!

I just wanted to share with you that the scripture "seek and you shall find" is so true! I have opened my heart, search it and pray about certain things all week and I found the answer this week.

I hope that you all have a blessed week.

Love

just a little tidbit

even if I don't know you - please feel free to leave me a comment - I would love to know your thoughts!

Today's devotion

So, I've been reading the "purpose driven life" by Rick Warren....again......great book. It has made me ponder what is my purpose? The chapter today was chapter 3 - it was called "What drives your life" and one section stuck out at me and I've read it over and over today because it defines where I am right now at this moment......

Knowing your purpose simplifies your life! One question it has you ask yourself is: "Does this activity help me fulfill one of God's purposes for my life?". Another thing that stuck out at me was this paragraph: "it is impossible to do everything people want you to do. You have just enough time to do God's will. If you can't get it all done, it means you're trying to do much more than God intended for you to do. Knowing your purpose focuses your life. It concentrates your effort and energy on what's important. You become effective by being selective!

This was right on track for me today because I have been pondering some things that I have going on right now as it relates to how much I do. I am one of the lead praise and worship singers at our church; however, I'm also the Sunday School Administrator and on Sunday mornings - it is CRAZY trying to get everything done before I get to the platform. I have a hard time transitioning from crazy schedule to worship...........when I read the part about "it is impossible to do everything people want you to do", I begin to think that maybe I need to work on my schedule - maybe I need to alleviate some of my responsibilities to others who are not on the platform - other's who could handle some of the things that would allow me to have a few minutes to pray and get my mind set on the things of god so that when I step on the platform - they see someone who is ready to worship - not someone who is in a hurry to finish worship so I can get to the next chore.......does that sound horrible? I need balance.

Remember yesterday when I talked about the pattern of becoming obsessed with working out? It seems that whenever I take on a responsibility - I go above and beyond my duties because I feel like I should in order for it to run smoothly - I forget that others are on the same team and are more than willing to help out if I would just ask..........

Point to ponder: Living on purpose is the path to peace.

Verse to remember: "You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you". Isaiah 26:3 (TEV)

Question to consider: what do I want the driving force in my life to be?

love to all

I love exercising........

ok - don't roll your eyes at me......I didn't say I did it all the time - I just said that I love it! I love the way I feel after I've accomplished what I've set out to do.............can you tell I just got back from the gym!

I also love dreaming about the gym - dreaming that I'm there for hours working out and getting fit - and then I wake up!!!! ROFL

Let me lay this out for you................I haven't always been an exercise fan. I have pretty much been "pleasantly plump" my entire life. As a child - I was chunky and as a teen I was chunky. When I graduated high school - I wasn't bad - not too chunky - but not too skinny either.

As my life evolved - I made some bad choices and gained quite a bit of weight during some of that - mostly from depression from making the bad choice - and then one day - a good friend of mine name Wendy ask me to go to the gym with her. I'm thinking - yeah right - that's going to happen. I felt like most overweight people feel - too fat to go to the gym. Isn't that an oxy moron since that is what the gym is for??? I knew that skinny people went there and great looking guys with nice bodies went there (I was single at the time people - give me a break! LOL) and I was having no part of it! However, the gym that she was inviting me too was little gym called The downtown fitness center.....doesn't exist these days - but was a godsend at the time. It was a tiny gym - only a few people there at the CRACK of dawn when she went - 5:00 AM before work! I thought, ok - I'll give it a try. I went for a few months - walked on the treadmill every morning for about 45 minutes -then took a shower and went to work. After about 3 months of this, the owner, Randy, asked me if I had ever thought about lifting weights.....I'm sorry - but I LAUGHED IN HIS FACE. Ok - do I look like I have ever lifted weights???? He talked me into letting him train me 3 x a week........it was hard, hard, hard - but it was so worth it!!! I was never as in good of shape was I was during that time period. I became OBSESSED with working out. I would go into the gym every morning at 5:00 - train with him for 1 hour and then cardio for 45 minutes.............wow - it was awesome.

Then came the marathon running. My friend Janet conned me into training for my first one. 1999.......I couldn't believe I said yes....I mean - who in their right mind trains for 26.2 miles of running??????? I loved it!!! I ran 5 marathons.....last one was October 2001. I was obsessed with running (ok - do you see a pattern here?)

Then came Marine Bootcamp. 2 weeks of HELL! And, to top that off - I PAID SOMEONE TO YELL IN MY FACE!!! It was a 2 week class at 4:45 in the AM by real drill Sargent's from the marine corp........I became obsessed with this............(pattern, pattern, pattern).

Ok - I was skinny and LOVING IT.

June 2002 - married. June 2003 baby

exercising???? what is that????? skinny????? again - what is that?????

5 years later.........ok - baby is now a kindergartner and I'm heading back to the gym. Went today and LOVED IT again. Of course, let me tell you that I hurt in places I didn't even remember there was a muscle - but hey - no pain no gain - correct??? I have a feeling - it's going to take a while for me to work up to where I was - in fact, I really have NO intentions of becoming obsessed - reality - I don't have the time nor the same amount of energy as I did prior to Jake - but, I do have 3 days a week - 1.5 hours to spare and with that time - I'm going to spend at the gym. I have a friend, Debbie, who is going with me. It helps me tremendously to have someone to "report" to at the gym. If she is there - I'm for sure going to be there - don't want her thinking I'm a slacker or something. My biggest problem is - I want to go in there and lift the same amount of weight that I did 5.5 years ago and guess what - that "ain't" happening. I'm doing good to start out at 5 pounds......1 rep.....ROFL.....but I promise you - I will stay at it. I don't want to be skinny or obsessed - I just want to be healthy.

I hope that you all have a blessed day and if I can get out of bed and walk tomorrow morning - I'm going again at 8:30 AM.......I may be crawling by tomorrow night - but at least I will be one cellulite cell lighter. ROFL

love to all

It's finally here!!!!!

The day I have been waiting for since December 19th!!!! The day that school resumes from the holiday break..........LOL. I'm teasing - it wasn't that bad - most of it was very enjoyable - but the last few days - it was a little tough as Jake was getting anxious to get back to his routine and very tired of being at home!

This morning was great - he jumped out of bed saying "today I go to school".....I'm thinking "thank you Jesus! :) I mean - I know it's wrong - but 2 weeks at home with a 5 year old who is the only child and who expects you to entertain him 24/7 is a long time!!!!! LOL. Anyway - it was great - he got up, got dressed without too big of a meltdown (oh yeah - we have those on a daily basis if something doesn't go his way) and out the door we went. Of course, he was a little perturbed that he had to wear a jacket since it was in the 40's this morning - but, he got to wear a new one - so that calmed him down quickly.......of course, because it was drizzling - he wanted me to walk him into the school vs. being dropped off (which is what he normally wants because all the other kido's get dropped off) and the whole time we were walking up to the school - he kept saying "my new boots are getting wet!!!" Too cute!

My day back at work was great! I love my job - especially because it's part-time, with some good, christian people and it's a fun place to work! I was so excited to be around other adults and have something to do besides clean my house and wash clothes....there is only so much of that I can do and then I get bored and then I eat, and then I eat again, etc......

Speaking of eating - one of the things on my "list of things to do this year" was dieting. I've decided I'm not dieting per se - I'm just going to eat more healthy........ and I have to admit -these past few days - I've done extremely well. Oh yeah - I've been tempted - but I'm ignoring it! My husband also wants to lose weight - so, we are working together. Last night was salmon, salad and stir fry veggies - tonight is chicken and two veggies......slowly, but surely! I'm also back on my exercise kick - so, we are off to a great start! Don't worry - there are no more marathon's in my future - so I'm not going to go crazy with exercising....those days are SO over!

One of the other things on my list that I'm doing better at is my prayer time and devotional time.....still working out the kinks - like what time is better for me - morning or evening - we'll be able to tell soon......I'm also re-reading "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren - great book.

Lastly, my friend, James Green, who pastor's a church here in Spring has a great blog. Over the last couple of days, he has written about Event vs. Process - now, he is writing about Fasting.....he has some awesome things to say and I wanted to share with you. Link on over and check it out. http://jameslgreen.blogspot.com/

Have a blessed evening!

Love to all

Ok - I'm ready to move on

I'm ready for my schedule to get back to normal! I am very schedule oriented (wonder where Jake gets it from?? LOL).....and the fact that I've been "out of routine" for two weeks is finally catching up to me....and, I think that Jake and I are starting to get on each other's nerves!!!

We had a great time at the zoo yesterday - he loved all the animals. Every year he gets more and more into the animals.....it was cute watching his face light up as we saw the giraffe's, elephants and his favorite - the lions and tigers! He was digging the snakes too!!!!!! Gross.......

Last night - he got to spend the night with his Nana......he misses not being able to hang out with her much. Prior to this past year, before she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, he would go over there one day a week and spend the entire day and then hang out with her every Sunday afternoon/evening. This past year has been tough on both of them because she has been too weak to watch/play with him and she has missed so much time with him. We also like to take our parents on a vacation once a year - unfortunately, she missed that too.......last year was our first vacation with Popsie and Grammy - we had a great time! We don't take both sets of parents together - not sure my husband could survive that....LOL...... In 2007, we took his parents to Gulf Shores, Alabama and stayed at a resort - the beach was wonderful and Jake had a great time! We were lucky because my parents - Grammy and Popsie - were in Alabama at the same time - so they got to come visit with us. This past year - we took Grammy and Pospie to Branson MO - had a great time! I've already told Grammy to start thinking about where they want to go this year.........we may take Nana/Pop to Tennessee - maybe Pigeon Ford - not sure.....we'll have to see how much traveling Nana can do.....I know Grammy and Popsie can travel - they love it - so I suspect - we'll go somewhere far (Popsie loves to drive!).

Ok -I got a little sidetracked - but anyway - I'm ready for my schedule to get back to normal...there is only so much house cleaning to do, groceries to buy, menu's to plan!!! I'm ready to go back to my 4 days a week job and have some adult conversation!!! LOL. It's amazing how quickly a house returns to shambles's (after it's been clean) when you have a 5 year old at home for 2 weeks!!!!

ANYWAY - hope everyone has a great weekend and good church.

Be blessed.

quick post this morning

I'm getting ready to take Jake to the zoo today - his daddy had to go into work for a couple of hours - so Jake and I am heading to the zoo (one of our favorite things to do!).......however, while I was doing my scripture reading this morning - I looked up the scripture in the Message Bible that I am memorizing with the Beth Moore challenge (written out below in my blog from last night from the NIV) and I love the way the Message writes it and thought I would share:

Jeremiah 17:10 Message: But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the Human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be."........WOW - isn't that awesome! He knows the real us - not who we sometimes try to pretend to be. This is really going to be a great challenge for me and I'm so pumped at what I'm going to learn and become this year!

Love to all - hopefully I will post later today..........if not, chat soon!

be blessed

Ok - new year is here

and here we are!! 2009 - wow! I can remember thinking if the year 2000 hit us - we'd be dead and gone........funny how when you are younger - 40 seems so old.....now, since I'm reaching that lovely number this year - it's the new 20 - right???

We had a great dinner with our friends last night - Chuck and Betty live across the street and have adopted Jake as one of their grand kids. He absolutely adores them (because they give him candy and never tell him NO!). My husband grilled steaks, sausage and I made a side dish with a salad and we were fat and sassy by the end of the night! I can't wait to start my diet!!!!! YUK with all this food......

After dinner, we enjoyed a blueberry cobbler that MS. Betty had made - very good....of course, topped off with ice cream......ok -did I say I was going to diet????

Once the dishes were cleaned - we settled out side for some small fireworks (ok - not actual fireworks since Jake is only 5 - but he thought they were). We had bought him some poppers and some sparklers - he had a blast!!! He would act like he was walking past you to say something sweet and then throw a popper behind you - we would act like we were jumping out of our skin - he got so tickled! Memories - I love them! Of course, they will have to be memories because I forgot to take pictures!!!!! I am the picture queen and I wasn't even thinking!

We're old - we only lasted until 11:30 and we crashed......I'm thinking - if we could make 11:30 - what was 30 more minutes - but hey - that was already 2.5 hours past our bedtime, so we were doing good!!!! LOL

Today - Happy new year........we were lazy for the most part. My husband helped a neighbor pick up some furniture from Dillard's and set up in their home - I basically sat out side with Jake while he played his guitars for the neighbors....yes, we give free concerts on a daily basis. He drives his 4 wheeler (battery operated -goes like 1 mile per hour!!!!!) singing "choo choo, chuga chuga big red car" from the wiggles and then acts like he is arriving at his concert to screaming fans - he gets off the "car" and waves to the ladies and gentleman - and if your nice - you get an autograph!!!! It's a sight to behold - never a dull moment around here.

Around 2:00 - Nana and Pop arrived......she was quickly escorted to the "band" room.....I don't know how she does it - but she will sit in there for hours while Jake bangs, oh - I mean plays, his drums!!!! She is truly blinded by love!!!! LOL. Once again - my husband made a great dinner - barbecue ribs, more sausage......and left over steak for those of us who didn't get enough last night! I made black eye peas, stir fry cabbage and potato salad.......ok - now I am GROSSED OUT!@!!!! NO MORE FOOD PLEASE!!!!!!!

No dessert though because I'm on a diet.....ROFL

Now, everyone is quieting down for the night and I'm working on my Beth Moore Scripture memorization.......and my list for the new year. My sister Vicki sent me an email with a great idea - I will also set aside a specific time a day to pray for each of my sisters........I love that! I'm adding that to my list for the new year as well as learning how to cook for 2 instead of 20!!! My husband also wants to lose weight (25 pounds by May) so he is challenging me to learn how to cook for two so that he won't over eat......so, that is an addition to my list as well........I'm sure it will keep growing!

My 1st scripture to memorize is the following (you only have to learn 2 per month - not hard to do - so do it with me!). Jeremiah 17:10 - NIV......"I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve". I plan to meditate on that scripture for the first 2 weeks in January before I find another one......I'm excited about what I will learn from it.

Be blessed!
