Ok - new year is here

and here we are!! 2009 - wow! I can remember thinking if the year 2000 hit us - we'd be dead and gone........funny how when you are younger - 40 seems so old.....now, since I'm reaching that lovely number this year - it's the new 20 - right???

We had a great dinner with our friends last night - Chuck and Betty live across the street and have adopted Jake as one of their grand kids. He absolutely adores them (because they give him candy and never tell him NO!). My husband grilled steaks, sausage and I made a side dish with a salad and we were fat and sassy by the end of the night! I can't wait to start my diet!!!!! YUK with all this food......

After dinner, we enjoyed a blueberry cobbler that MS. Betty had made - very good....of course, topped off with ice cream......ok -did I say I was going to diet????

Once the dishes were cleaned - we settled out side for some small fireworks (ok - not actual fireworks since Jake is only 5 - but he thought they were). We had bought him some poppers and some sparklers - he had a blast!!! He would act like he was walking past you to say something sweet and then throw a popper behind you - we would act like we were jumping out of our skin - he got so tickled! Memories - I love them! Of course, they will have to be memories because I forgot to take pictures!!!!! I am the picture queen and I wasn't even thinking!

We're old - we only lasted until 11:30 and we crashed......I'm thinking - if we could make 11:30 - what was 30 more minutes - but hey - that was already 2.5 hours past our bedtime, so we were doing good!!!! LOL

Today - Happy new year........we were lazy for the most part. My husband helped a neighbor pick up some furniture from Dillard's and set up in their home - I basically sat out side with Jake while he played his guitars for the neighbors....yes, we give free concerts on a daily basis. He drives his 4 wheeler (battery operated -goes like 1 mile per hour!!!!!) singing "choo choo, chuga chuga big red car" from the wiggles and then acts like he is arriving at his concert to screaming fans - he gets off the "car" and waves to the ladies and gentleman - and if your nice - you get an autograph!!!! It's a sight to behold - never a dull moment around here.

Around 2:00 - Nana and Pop arrived......she was quickly escorted to the "band" room.....I don't know how she does it - but she will sit in there for hours while Jake bangs, oh - I mean plays, his drums!!!! She is truly blinded by love!!!! LOL. Once again - my husband made a great dinner - barbecue ribs, more sausage......and left over steak for those of us who didn't get enough last night! I made black eye peas, stir fry cabbage and potato salad.......ok - now I am GROSSED OUT!@!!!! NO MORE FOOD PLEASE!!!!!!!

No dessert though because I'm on a diet.....ROFL

Now, everyone is quieting down for the night and I'm working on my Beth Moore Scripture memorization.......and my list for the new year. My sister Vicki sent me an email with a great idea - I will also set aside a specific time a day to pray for each of my sisters........I love that! I'm adding that to my list for the new year as well as learning how to cook for 2 instead of 20!!! My husband also wants to lose weight (25 pounds by May) so he is challenging me to learn how to cook for two so that he won't over eat......so, that is an addition to my list as well........I'm sure it will keep growing!

My 1st scripture to memorize is the following (you only have to learn 2 per month - not hard to do - so do it with me!). Jeremiah 17:10 - NIV......"I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve". I plan to meditate on that scripture for the first 2 weeks in January before I find another one......I'm excited about what I will learn from it.

Be blessed!

Karen

Happy New Year! I love the scripture memorization, I'm gonna do it with you! I always read through the Bible but you know some times I read on auto pilot. Not sure that always qualifies ad 'hiding it in my heart'. I'm not saying that I am dieting but I am for sure ready to eat my veggies - sick of processed food!

Karen, sounds like you all had a good night and day.......We will have to tell you about your dad's NY eve service he preached in Orange and we were supposed to have been in Shepherd.......Oh my are we getting old or what???
Yesterday we didn't leave our house. I cooked the traditional meal for New Years for just us two but Vicki and Lauren came by so Vicki did eat. We have lots of leftovers for today as I sure don't know how to cook for 2.....
I have to work today so I better run.
Give Jake hugs from me. I know he would rather have them from Popsie, the little stinker that he is........
Love,
